Using art as both an engagement and regeneration tool allows Groundwork Wakefield to increase the relevance of a project to a local community.
Whether using art to engage people in the process of improving their environment, or working with a community to create a piece of public art or play area, the final outcome is a more aware and empowered community.
As a regeneration tool it works best when both the artist and the community have been engaged from the very earliest stage in a project.
Working with professional artists and local communities Groundwork Wakefield can help to develop projects that regenerate an area and bring about a greater sense of ownership from the local community.
Art cuts across the different sections of communities and appeals to people of all ages, often providing a ‘way in’ to a community that was previously closed.
The Trust can either support the process of engaging communities using art as a tool, or work with community groups and other partners in creating and implementing a public piece of art.
