About Us

Building on last year’s successful programmes Groundwork Wakefield and its subsidiary trading company, Wakefield Environmental Developments Ltd (WEDL), have continued to grow and expand. Significant progress has been made against strategic objectives and new areas of activity have been developed.

This has resulted in partnerships - The Trust has taken an active role on the Wakefield District Partnership and chaired the Environmental Wellbeing Partnership. Through participation with key partners the Trust has aligned its own strategy and programme development to the Wakefield District Community Strategy “Fast Forward”.

This increased level of partnership working has culminated in a greater level of coordination and effectiveness in meeting local needs and the implementation of projects.

The strategic project themes have:

• Actively promoted community engagement in the development and delivery of regeneration initiatives within neighbourhoods.
  
• Delivered landscape improvements with biodiversity, leisure and recreational benefits leading to an increased sense of community pride.
• Supported young people in building skills and confidence. 
  
• Increased awareness, skills and knowledge of local people to become engaged in regenerating their area and reducing their impact on the environment.
  
• Created training and employment opportunities for the long term unemployed upskilling the local workforce.
• Created economic outputs from the increased competitiveness of companies through improved environmental management.
